WOW...a web site dedicated to the Guarnieri name, what a great idea! I would like to begin by telling you a little about myself and my family. My name is Tony Guarnieri, I was born in a small town in Calabria (southern Italy)called Rose, province of Cosenza. I came to the US via JFK in New York in December 1961 with my mother Viola, my older sister Rita, my younger brother Rocco and my younger sister Gina. My father Eugenio had immigrated earlier in April 1961, and my two older brothers Franco and Luigi had immigrated to the US in the late 50s. We all resided in a small section of Greenwich, Connecticut called Cos Cob. I can recall the day we arrived at New York, JFK. I could not believe the size of the airport, the size of the indoor stucture, the doors that would open automatically and could not figure out how they did that, the big cars that seemed to me to be twice the size of the Fiats I was used to seeing. It was also the first time in my life I saw in real life people of different races, Oriental, Afro-Americans, Middle Eastern ect... As a young boy in Italy I often thought of what America would be like. Perhaps nothing was more exciting to me than the thought of having a my own bicycle, our very own tv in our house, riding in a big car and having nice clothes. It was truly pure fantasy and a dream for me.
I want to congratulate the individuals responsible for creating the Guarnieri web site. Let us all celebrate our heritage and share our ideas. We must and will continue to grow our GUARNIERI web site. I would truly enjoy hearing from anyone. God Bless you and your loved ones...Tony
