: I HAVE IN MY POSSESION A VIOLIN THAT HAS BEEN IN MY FAMILY FOR OVER 150 YEARS. THE LABEL INSIDE READS "JOSEPH GUARNERIUS FECIT CREMONAE ANNO 17--" THE LAST TWO DIGITS ARE HARD TO MAKE-OUT AS THEY ARE WRITTEN IN AND I CANNOT MAKEOUT THE EXACT YEAR. WHO CAN VERIFY THIS INSTRUMENT FOR ME?
: THANKS FOR YOUR TIME. ROBERT W. CORDUA
It sounds like you may have a violin that was made by a Guarnieri in Cremona. You can go to the Barnes and Noble website and purchase a book that will show you how to authenticate violins. I came across it today as i was looking something up for someone about a piece of music for a violin. I do know that Cremona is where many violin makers worked and made their violins. Hope this helps. Good Luck to you!!!
